hallelujah - there is a SUN!

mid 70s
sunny
beautiful

What more do I need to say?

Poor Dan though - he reffed 3 soccer games (Parks & Rec soccer - 1 hour games) then when we got home the first thing I said was, "You ready to run?"  He ran...he ran slower than me, but that was okay because it gave my running ego a boost!  Thanks, hun!

In today's run I did discover two songs that will be going on my running list - don't laugh - Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" and Reel Big Fish's "Sell Out,"  which is what came on as I was doing the last circuit of running today...what a song to end on!!  I felt AWESOME at the end of today's run.

Well, then we got home from running and he mowed the lawn.  I think he only did it because he's doing a walking challenge and was trying to boost his step count, which I believe ended up somewhere in excess of 20,000 steps today.  In case you didn't know, 2000 steps is close to a mile.  You do the math!

Week 2 Day 2
Brisk five-minute warm up walk. Then alternate 90 seconds of jogging and two minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cool down walk.

WOAH - Thunderstorm!

Like I've said before, we have been getting way more rain than we need!  Today there was a small rain, then a clearing.  We checked the radar and thought for sure we could get in a 30 minute training session.  That's all we wanted - 30 minutes.

Nope - didn't happen.  Instead we got stuck in a thunderstorm!  Not just rain - that would have been no big deal.  I mean full out thunder and maybe even some lighting as we made the last turn home.  Dan was so funny though..."What do we do?"  Well, it's raining, thundering and we are a mile from home - we continue like real runners!  So we took a short cut across the school field and eventually made it home.  Soaking wet with side stitches like no other.  I cried when I ran into the garage.

The boys were troopers though - thank goodness the stroller has a rain cover.  But the thunder about did them in.

I'm glad I had stopped at the store and picked up a pair of running tights though - it was a cold rain and capris would not have cut it.

Of course, no sooner did I get out of the shower and the sun came out...go figure.

Week 2 Day 1 - I defeat you!
Brisk five-minute warm up walk. Then alternate 90 seconds of jogging and two minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cool down walk.

A busy weekend...

It was Easter Weekend, and with all of the events scheduled and family get-togethers we just didn't get in a run.  The boys had a wonderful time at the Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning - had to stuff eggs in my pockets because they were picking up so many.  The church lays out 1000s of eggs - close to 7000 eggs - and there are very few in Gabe's age group, so that meant more eggs per child.  Noah filled his basket, but he's the youngest in his age group so I'm sure he was being run over.

After that we headed over to Dan's parents' for Easter.  Got to spend some time with his brother, sister-in-law and their kids.  Dan's grandparents were down from Wisconsin, too.

Sunday was at my parents'.  We had a good time hanging out with my family, too.  By the end of the day the boys were showing their exhaustion and we had to leave earlier than I would have liked, but they were just getting crazy.

Then on Monday I had a work thing, so here we are Tuesday - it's been 5 days since our last run.  Today was a little trying on my lungs again, but it felt great to know we had finally completed week one.

Week Two - HERE WE COME!

Week 1 Day 3
Brisk five-minute warm up walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cool down walk.

Day Two

The rain has caused some delays - and I don't see it getting any better in the next couple of weeks.  We are facing record rain fall and it tends to happen right around 4pm - right when we're supposed to be out running.  Which would be fine, if it didn't involve lightning!

Today was easier than Day 1, my lungs didn't hurt quite so badly.  It will just take some time to adjust; when you go from no exercise (aside from chasing after a 2 year old and 4 year old) to this, there is some conditioning involved.

I did make it to the store after work and picked up a pair of running capris.  I felt more official today.  ;)

We were able to stop at the park and let the boys play for a few minutes before heading the rest of the way home.  Dan and I finished our last circuit and cool down around the playground.

Week 1 Day 2
Brisk five-minute warm up walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cool down walk.

Couch to 5K

Here I am - a non-runner - the person who always said she only runs if being chased.  I guess I should say here WE are, because my dear husband has agreed to embark on this mission with me, and we of course are dragging (or pushing in this case) our two boys along for the ride.

If you haven't heard about it before, the Couch to 5K (or c25k) program is designed for beginning runners.  It starts you off slow, doing walk/run intervals and gradually builds you up over 9 weeks to become 5k runners.  I decided to start this because our church holds the Bev Coleman 5k race in October, and I really wanted to be able to participate this year.  It's a great fundraiser for the youth group, community builder and because cancer has affected so many people in my life, I felt this a great way to remember them.

So here begins our adventure...Week 1 Day 1 - about kicked my rear, but I survived.
Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five-minute cooldown walk.
